Across nine seasons he has turned out for Telugu Titans, Dabang Delhi K.C., Puneri Paltan, Gujarat Giants and Patna Pirates. He has built his career almost entirely on tackles. PKL career
Sombir started out with Telugu Titans, playing 2 matches in Season 4 without scoring. Season 5 was his breakthrough. He picked up 39 tackle points in 17 matches and recorded 2 High 5s. One of the bright spots that season was a win over Tamil Thalaivas. Indiatimes reported that the Titans’ defence scored almost half of the team’s points that night. The report described Sombir’s display as a stellar defensive performance and credited him with 10 points. He featured in 4 matches for the Titans in Season 6 and scored 1 point.
In Season 7 he played for Dabang Delhi K.C. and scored 10 points in 12 matches. That tally was made up of 3 raid points and 7 tackle points, and he added 1 High 5.
His most productive spell came with Puneri Paltan. In Season 8 he scored 61 points in 19 matches, 60 of them from tackles, and recorded 5 High 5s. It is his highest single-season total in the official data. He followed it in Season 9 with 35 tackle points and 1 High 5 from 18 matches.
Sombir then moved to Gujarat Giants. In Season 10 he played 22 matches, the most of any season in his career, and scored 52 tackle points with 4 High 5s. In Season 11 he added 27 tackle points and 2 High 5s in 14 matches.
Season 12
For Season 12 in 2025 he played for Patna Pirates. He appeared in 7 matches and scored 2 points, both from tackles. His tackle strike rate for the season was 22%.
Style of play
The numbers point to a specialist defender. Raiding has played almost no part in his game: only 4 of his 227 career points came from raids. His value has come from tackling, and in four separate seasons he recorded two or more High 5s.
